Vietnam is set to improve women’s advancement

(VOVworld) – A consultation workshop on ways to improve the performance of relevant agencies for women’s advancement opened in the central highlands province of Dac Lac on Tuesday. Head of the Gender Equality Department under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Pham Ngoc Tien, reiterated Vietnam’s unchanged policy toward gender equality and women’s advancement. Tien talked about the project to improve the performance of relevant agencies for women’s advancement as part of the National Strategy on Gender Equality between 2011 and 2020: “The purpose of the project is to restructure the organization of the relevant agencies to improve their performance. The outcome of the project will be a Directive of the Party Secretariat on women’s advancement and gender equality in the new era as well as the official establishment of committees for women’s advancement in party and judicial agencies. Opinions in this workshop will be compiled and submitted to the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.”

Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest rates of female National Assembly deputies in the region and the world. 20% of Vietnamese business managers are women and 46.5% of Vietnamese workers are employed. However, gender equality remains a problem in a number of provinces.
