Vietnam marks Day for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims

(VOVworld) – Activities marking Day for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims were held across Vietnam on Saturday. The Ho Chi Minh city Association for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims held a camp to mark the event, which included a march involving 1,500 people and free medical check ups for agent orange victims.

The organizing board presented 100 scholarships to disabled children and provided financial support to a number of agent orange victims’ families to develop their own business. Individuals and organizations donated 300,000 USD to help the municipal Association for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims in its humanitarian activities. Dao Xuan Hanh is attending a vocational training course at a school for disadvantaged and orphaned children in Ho Chi Minh city. She said: “I’m glad to participate in today’s camp and share with others in the same circumstance. I will try my best to learn a job to support myself in the future.”

Leaders of the central highlands province of Kon Tum visited and presented gifts to agent orange/dioxin victims. Lu Duc Thin is Vice Chairman of the provincial Association for Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims: “Most of the victims in the province have houses and their lives have been improved. The entire society has been involved in supporting the victims, who are themselves trying their utmost to overcome fate.”

Thua Thien Hue province, meanwhile, held a fine art exhibition featuring pain and war by painter Cao Le Quang, who himself is an agent orange victim. On display are 52 lacquer paintings featuring the consequences of war and the pain of Agent Orange victims as well as their desire to live and to share.
