Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said complicated global developments, particularly China’s illegal placing of an oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf, had a negative impact on Vietnam’s stability and socio-economic development. He added that thanks to the determination of the Party, the government, and localities 13 out of 14 development targets set for 2014 have been achieved. The macro-economy has been stabilized, inflation controlled and GDP growth has reached 5.98%. Prime Minister Dung said: “The thing most worth noting in 2014 was our success in safeguarding national sovereignty. By maintaining peace and stability we have created consensus and consolidated national unity in defending national sovereignty.”

Prime Minister Dung said that 2015 is of great importance as it is the last year of Vietnam’s 5-year socio-economic development plan. The government has set 4 major tasks to be completed in 2015: fulfill all socio-economic development targets, safeguard national sovereignty, step up international integration, and hold Party congresses at all levels. He asked ministries and localities to identify shortcomings and limitations and propose ways to achieve next year’s targets.
