(VOVworld) – The National Assembly Ethnicity Council has worked with United Nations Development Program to analyze the efficiency of an imminent Government program to reduce poverty in 62 poor districts in a sustainable manner. Addressing the opening ceremony in the central city of Hue today/on Tuesday, Danh Ut, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly Ethnicity Council says 'The program has created remarkable changes in both the spiritual and material lives of poor people in these districts and will ensure that by 2020 living conditions there will be equal to elsewhere in the region. The program has also supported the sustainable development of agro-forestry production and building a socio-economic infrastructure suitable to each district while ensuring national security and defense'.
From now until 2015, provinces nationwide will use models of the program on fast and sustainable poverty reduction in 62 poor districts and the new rural development program. These plans focus on improving the infrastructure in disadvantaged districts and enhancing the capacity of local people to make the best use of the new projects. Over the next five years, Vietnam plans to reduce the number of poor households to 25%.
