Vietnam supports UNESCO’s development

(VOVworld) – Vietnam fully supports UNESCO’s initiatives to improve its operational efficiency, role and prestige. Speaking at the UNESCO Executive Board’s plenary session in Paris on Monday, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son said Vietnam is committed to supporting and accompanying UNESCO’s efforts to overcome current problems and calling on member countries to contribute ideas and money to the organization.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy Minister Son held a meeting with UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova. Mr. Son briefed a VOV correspondent in Paris about this meeting:“UNESCO leaders, especially Ms Bokova have a special feeling for Vietnam, particularly Vietnamese cultural traditions. At this meeting, Ms Bokova reviewed commitments and agreements signed between Vietnam and UNESCO and praised Vietnam’s success in honoring its commitments to UNESCO. Vietnam and UNESCO have great potential for further bilateral cooperation. Vietnam has many tangible and intangible cultural documents and natural heritages, which can be submitted to UNESCO for recognition. In the coming years, Vietnam hopes to increase exchanges with UNESCO in culture, science and education”.

At this meeting, Deputy Minister Son reviewed the outcomes of the 47th Conference of the Southeast Asian Minister of Education Council held in Vietnam. He said Vietnam welcomes and pledges to sign a cooperative framework agreement between ASEAN and UNESCO by the end of this year.
