(VOVworld) - In response to a media question on Vietnam’s stance on a visiting US senator’s saying that Vietnam and the US are close to an agreement allowing Americans to adopt Vietnamese children, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi said in a press briefing in Hanoi on Thursday ‘to ensure the best rights for children and in line with humanitarian spirit, the Vietnamese law has clear governance on the process and procedures defining children eligible to be adopted by foreign citizens. In fact, over the past years, Vietnam has developed good cooperation with many countries in the issue and at the moment, both Vietnam and the US are continuing to take into consideration of this matter.

Nghi noted that Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will attend a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council and a conference on disarmament in Geneva next Monday. At the UN Human Rights Council meeting, Minister Minh will deliver a key speech on Vietnam’s viewpoints on human rights.
