Themed "Buddhist Perspective towards Achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals", the event is expected to welcome around 10,000 participants, including 1,500 international Buddhist dignitaries from some 100 countries and territories worldwide. Most Venerable, Phra Brahmapundit, President of the International Council for UN Vesak Day, said Sunday he will help the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha organize the event. More than 70 domestic and foreign delegates met last weekend to discuss the agenda of next year’s Vesak Day.
The 2014 UN Day of Vesak will help raise the profile of Vietnamese Buddhism internationally and affirm Vietnam's position within the United Nations. It also aims to promote Vietnam's image, its land, people, and ecological and religious tourism development.
This is part of Vietnam’s master plan to petition UNESCO to recognize Vietnam’s Trang An eco-tourism complex as a world natural heritage site.
