(VOVworld) - Hoang Xuan Vinh has made history when secured Vietnam's first Olympic gold medal in on Saturday, winning the men's 10-metre air pistol event.

With 202.5 points in 20 shots Vinh won the gold medal and set a new Olympic record. Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien has sent a congratulation letter to Vietnamese athletes and shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh. 

Vinh’s record has been widely praised by the world press. Reuters has a article titled: “Hoang Xuan Vinh secures Vietnam's first Olympic gold medal with with 202.5 points in the men's 10-metre air pistol event”. The UK’s Daily Mail has an article titled: “Modest Vinh makes history for Vietnam”. Impressed by Vinh’s achievement, US’s NBC Channel reported: “Hoang Xuan Vinh wins the first gold medal for Vietnam”. BBC of UK  wrote “ Vietnam wins first Olympic gold medal when Hoang Xuan Vinh won the the men's 10-metre air pistol event”. Xinhua net also reported on Vinh’s achievement and CNN congratulated Vinh on Twitter.
