Vietnam’s 15th Poetry Day opens
(VOVworld) - Vietnam’s 15th Poetry
Day opened in Hanoi’s Temple of Literature on Saturday. Deputy Chief of the
Party Commission for Communications and Education, Bui The Duc, beat the drum
to launch the festival.
The annual event included various activities such as
exchanges between poets, the “Way of poets” presenting works of popular poets,
the “Vietnamese children’s poetry space”, poetry readings, recitations, and art
performances. A member of the organizing board, poet Nguyen Viet Chien: “The 15th Vietnam Poetry Day
celebrates the 60th anniversary of Vietnam Writers’ Association. We
have examples of poems written by the anti-American war generation, by poets in
the renewal time and latest poets. They share the voice of honoring poems and
patriotism, as seen in topics about the East Sea, Truong Sa and border areas
where our soldiers are defending the national sovereignty.”
The Poetry Day takes place in Ho Chi Minh City
the same day with a dozen of poets clubs and camps open in the city. Poet Xuan
Truong from the city’s Literature Club: “The
event helps the public to think more about poems as part of national spring
festivals. It’s time to slow down our life and better explore the art.”
Started on the 15th day of the first
lunar month in 2003, the Vietnam Poetry Day has become a biggest poetry
festival in the country.
