During the meeting, delegates recalled the historic battle against US B-52 bombers in December 1972 - the “Dien Bien Phu in the Air" campaign and highlighted the importance of the Party’s leadership and President Ho Chi Minh’s strategic view in the organization of the air defense – air force. Lieutenant General Nguyen Duc Soat was the pilot who shot down the biggest number of US jet fighters: “12 days and nights campaign is of great strategic value in forcing the US to sign the Paris Accord to end its aggressive war in Vietnam. It’s necessary to review lessons learned from the victory to complete tactic combat plans of our air defense and air force.”
