World Human Rights Day December 10: Vietnam makes significant progress in human rights assurance
(VOVworld)- Vietnam has prioritized comprehensive poverty reduction to complete the UN Millennium Development Goals. Thanks to its success in economic growth and social welfare programs, Vietnam has achieved many development objectives of the UN Millennium Development Goals ahead of schedule. According to the World Bank, Vietnam was one of the poorest in 1993 with per capita income of some 100 US dollars and poor social development indexes. Now Vietnam has been a mid income country with an economy of nearly 154 billion dollars and some 1700 dollars of per capita income. Poor household percentage has dropped from 58% in 1993 to 10% last year with 30 million people escaping poverty. Vietnam has achieved 5 out of 8 millennium development goals and expected to complete the other 3 by 2015.
