Young people pay tribute to martyrs
(VOVworld) – The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on Friday held a ceremony in the ancient Quang Tri citadel to launch a number of programs: “A Week of Gratitude”, “Remember the source of the water you drink”, and “Youth pay tribute to martyrs”. This is part of activities to mark the 65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day on July 27th.

Thousands of candles were lit in the fragrance of frankincense at night as young people from across the country gathered in Quang Tri ancient citadel to pay tribute to martyrs. Many of them said that this evening could be the most significant in their life, according to Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Party Secretary of Hanoi university of Pedagogy. Huyen said: "Visiting the Quang Tri ancient citadel today, I understand more of the sacrifices of the martyrs who fell for the national independence and liberation. As a future teacher, I’ll do my best to contribute to the younger generations’ education to serve our national development."
Nguyen Dac Vinh, First Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, told VOV: "We acknowledge that it is the natural responsibility of each young people to pay tribute to martyrs and carry out activities to some how compensate for their loved ones and families. It’s important task of the Youth Union to educate the young people to fulfill this duty whenever they can. Every youth member can show their gratitude to the martyrs and war invalids at anytime and any places just by their simple daily good work."
After the launching ceremony, participants set free flower garlands on Thach Han River.
