Leaders of Ha Long City and representatives of Brigade 170 of the Navy Region 1, the Veterans Association, and the Youth Union were among the attendants.
The event is aimed at educating officers and soldiers on the traditions of the People’s Armed Forces and honor the heroic history of the Navy’s first victory 59 years ago.
On August 2, 1964, three torpedo boats No.333, 336, and 339 of the 3rd Division, Battalion 135 (now known as naval squadron 135 of Brigade 170 of the Navy Region 1), led by captain Nguyen Xuan Bot, attacked and chased away an US’s destroyer, shot down 1 plane and damaged another. The event shocked the world and reflected Vietnam’s staunch spirit.
