“Green ports” increase Thua Thien-Hue’s fishery product values
(VOVWORLD) - In a move for more sustainable seafood resources, to develop a brand, and to increase fishery product values, the management board for the fishing ports of Thua Thien-Hue province is building “green ports”.

In Hue’s Thuan An port, young fishermen are collecting plastic trash on each voyage. They take pride not only in bringing back a compartment full of fish and squid, but also the plastic bags they collect from the water.
Motivated by the "Green Sunday" campaign initiated by the provincial People's Committee, every weekend youth union members and young people from the coastal fishing village of Thuan An team up and collect trash along the shoreline.
The board is working with the World Wildlife Fund (WFF) in Vietnam to supply trash nets to off-shore fishing boats. The trash collected will be sorted, processed, and recycled by the fishing ports.
Thua Thien-Hue province is aiming to enroll its fishing ports in the International Green Fishing Ports Association. The model will be widely copied in other territorial waters of Vietnam.
