Delegates emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful environment, fostering dialogue and cooperation, and strengthening the effectiveness of international law and multilateral cooperation while reducing unilateral actions.
They praised Vietnam’s wind power potential, considering its large exclusive economic zone and second largest rare earth deposit in the world. They recommended the simultaneous exploitation of both traditional and renewable energy and converting traditional energy into green energy by employing technology and storing CO2.
Dr. Nguyen Xuan Huy at Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, said: "Vietnam has ample wind resources, especially around 30-40 kilometers from Vung Tau. Vietnam is currently ranked second only to China in offshore wind power development, positioning itself as a leading country in renewable energy development in the Asia-Pacific region."
The delegates also emphasized the importance of respecting international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982), to achieve peace and stability in the East Sea, highlighting the need for regional countries to strengthen cooperation amongst themselves and with countries outside the region to address various challenges such as developing clean energy, promoting marine scientific research, mitigating sea-level rise, and protecting the marine ecosystem.
