International cooperation strengthened to deal with plastic pollution at sea
(VOVWORLD) - East Asian countries have agreed to take urgent actions and seek effective solutions to deal with plastic pollution and other challenges to marine and coastal ecological systems.

The agreement was made at the 25th Intergovernmental Meeting of the Coordinating Body on the Seas of East Asia (COBSEA), chaired by the Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment which wrapped up in Hanoi this week.
Professor Nguyen Le Tuan, Director of the Research Institute of Sea and Islands of the Vietnam Administration of Sea and Islands said the Vietnamese government has adopted a National Action Program on Plastic Waste Management at Sea until 2030 and pledged to cut plastic waste at sea 50% by 2025 and 75% 2030.
Vietnam has also adopted several decrees implementing the Law on Environmental Protection, said Tuan.
COBSEA comprises Cambodia, China, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
