Addressing the event, an official from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Siswo Pramono said the complicated situation in the East Sea requires ASEAN members to uphold unity for joint development. Professor Ralf Emmers from the Singapore’s Nanyang University of Technology said the East Sea topics will be discussed at the ASEAN Summit to take place in Laos, where ASEAN and world powerhouse leaders will discuss the issue for the first time since the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s ruling in The Hague on July 12. He said he expected the ASEAN will continue to promote its positive role in settling the East Sea issue.
