(VOVWORLD) - Cu Pong commune in Dak Lak province is a former revolutionary base where the army and local people united in the national revolution and bravely fought until liberation day. Today, the Cu Pong people are working hard to eliminate poverty and develop the local economy, building a new-style rural area. On the occasion of the August Revolution and National Independence Day on September 2, VOV reports on the changes going on in Cu Pong.

Just a decade ago, Cu Pong was a poor commune with underdeveloped infrastructure, outdated farming practices, and destitute living conditions.
Now, the commune has seen positive changes thanks to the integration of government policies and projects prioritizing investment resources. More than 2,100 households with more than 10,000 members belonging to the Ede, M'nong, and Gia Rai ethnic minority groups have been provided with the resources to escape poverty, and earn a stable living.
In the Ede’s traditional long house, Y Hluat EBan of Ea Tuk hamlet, Cu Pong commune, told VOV about Ea Tuk’s thriving conditions. He said that the roads to the hamlet have been paved, and spacious houses have been built next to the traditional long house. Also, the national grid has been connected to each household, and the irrigation system has ensured enough water for crops.
Thanks to training courses and the application of science and technology, many households have escaped poverty and become better off. Y Hluat himself has now built a house, bought a car and equipped himself to better serve in the production. He is an outstanding farmer in the Cu Pong commune.
“We used to face lots of difficulties. But now we have built a house. I have learned the proper way to raise pigs, chickens and cows through training courses held by the Farmers Association. My family’s living conditions have greatly improved,” said Y Hluat.
More than 90% of local households have an annual income of 4,300 USD or more, and 20% of them are well-off with an annual income of 21,500 USD and up.
Currently, Cu Pong has 3,500 hectares of coffee, and hundreds of hectares of rubber, pepper and fruit trees of high economic value, bringing in millions of USD in revenue every year.
Tran Thanh, Chairman of the commune People's Committee, said: “Cu Pong’s Party Committee, administration and people have united to realize their socio-economic development missions and ensure the security and welfare of the locality. Investment has been made in electricity, roads, schools, medical stations, and irrigation systems to meet the basic needs of the locals. The number of poor households has been dropping annually. The commune is targeted to become a new-style rural village by 2020.”

The commune’s medical station has seen appreciable investment to meet national health standards, with modern equipment able to serve the needs of locals in medical examination and treatment.
Y Phem Nie, head of the commune’s medical station, said: “In recent years, the state has invested in the infrastructure and equipment for the station. Our staff have been trained to be able to operate advanced equipment. Free medical check-ups and treatment have been given to ethnic minority groups and disadvantaged people. 90% of policy beneficiaries have had medical insurance cards.”
