(VOVworld) -  Women in Quang Tri have contributed significantly to the province’s implementation of a national new rural development program since it was launched 5 years ago. VOV’s Thu Hoa reports.

The Quang Tri provincial women’s associations consider improving women’s income a key task of rural development. They recognize that a strong individual household economy can contribute more to upgrading local infrastructure. Quang Tri’s women associations at all levels have cooperated with related departments, sectors, and organizations to organize dozens of training classes to teach advanced technologies to local women to help them increase their family income. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Chairwoman of the Quang Tri provincial Women’s Association, said: "Since 2011 we’ve organized approximately 15 training classes a year with up to 40 women in each class, to teach them advanced technologies in husbandry, veterinary, and farming. Upon completing a class, 70% of them are able to find jobs thanks to our arrangements with related sectors and agencies. We’ve also set up teams to manufacture the typical products of each craft village."

Various creative and practical activities and programs have been designed by Quang Tri women associations to boost local rural development, including measures to increase local production, practice thrift, and contribute to sustainable poverty reduction. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy again: "We’ve organized various campaigns to support the implementation of the national rural development program. For example, this year’s campaign is being held in Can Lo district, next year it will take place in Vinh Linh, and in Trieu Phong the following year. Each year we’ll choose different topics of importance to each locality, from protecting the environment or putting up lamp posts in rural areas to rezoning fields. Our campaigns have attracted the participation of almost every woman in the province.
Ms. Thuy said women are playing an increasingly important role in Quang Tri’s new rural development: "Our success is attributable to our close coordination with the agricultural sector with which we registered specific programs to support new rural development activities. In 2015, we registered programs to upgrade rural roads, while in 2014 we focused on waste treatment activities."
