Tay Ninh mobilizes every possible resource for new rural development

(VOVworld) – New asphalted roads, cemented lanes, schools, and healthcare centers have breathed new lives into 25 communes in Tay Ninh province that have been selected for implementing a national rural development program. As well as upgraded infrastructure, the local people there are enjoying much better living standards thanks to the joint efforts of the local authorities and people in making use of every possible resource for local community development. VOV’s Thanh Trung reports..

In 2014 alone, a total of 30 million USD from the state budget and contributions from local businesses and people has been invested in 9 targeted communes of the national new rural development program in Tay Ninh. One of these communes, Thach Dong received an investment of up to 5 million USD, mainly to upgrade the local infrastructure. Up to now, nearly 100% of households in Thach Dong have been connected to the national electricity grid, while roads, schools, healthcare centers, cultural houses, and other public works have been built or upgraded. People in Thach Dong are now focusing on improving their agricultural production to improve living conditions. The commune now has only 35 poor households, accounting for 1.6% of the total local households, and is doing its best to become the first in Tay Ninh province to achieve all 19 criteria of the national rural development program. Pham Vu Tung, Chairman of Thach Dong communal People’s Committee, said: "Thach Dong has achieved 11 out of the 19 criteria of the national program of new rural development. It’s possible for us to complete all 19 criteria by the end of this year thanks to a high consensus among the local authorities and people to achieve the program’s set targets."

People in Tay Ninh have invented a number of new models of effective husbandry, such as raising several kinds of animals of high economic value including iguanas, chickens, lizards, and frogs. They have also applied advanced techniques in planting sugarcanes and cassava for higher productivity. Ta Hoang Thanh from Phuoc Ninh commune in Duong Minh Chau district, owns a 2 ha farm where he raises pigs and fish, and has planted some crops. His farm earns him an annual revenue of 150,000 USD. His farming model is being widely applied in his community. Thach told VOV: "I decided to raise fish and pigs and make use of the available fertilizers from husbandry to grow sugarcanes and cassava to help reduce production costs."

As part of implementing the national new rural development program, Tay Ninh has carried out a project to provide vocational training for rural laborers. Around 360 classes have been organized across the province to train 11,000 local farmers. Tay Ninh’s Hoa Thanh district has attracted nearly 600 farmers to such vocational classes. Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of Long Thanh Bac communal People’s Committee in Hoa Thanh district, said: "Long Thanh Bac is among the communes selected for the national program of new rural development. One of the program’s criteria is to ensure 60% of the working-age population have jobs. By now, we have had 40% of them employed and we plan to reach our goal next year by encouraging more and more farmers to take part in these vocational classes."

This year, Tay Ninh province has invested 350,000 USD in vocational training for 5000 local rural laborers. The province aims to have 20% of its communes completing the national rural development program by next year.
