(VOVWORLD) - A model for developing safe cultivation and animal husbandry in a closed system, initiated by the Green Plain Agriculture Development Company, has been replicated in remote mountain areas.

In early 2017, the Green Plain Agriculture Development Company invested 1.3 million USD in a safe agriculture model in To Mau village, Yen Bai province. Half of the money was for infrastructure development. The closed model includes a 3,000-square-meter facility for raising cows and buffalos, an area for raising worms, and 15 ha for growing grass.
Trinh Thanh Tung, the company’s director, said: “Since the model was first implemented, we have strictly followed VietGap standards. For example, husbandry standards are applied, from the selection of breeding stocks to caring for the animals. We imported part of our orange tree the seeds from the Vietnam Seed and Plant Institute. The rest were selected from thick-skinned orange trees in Luc Yen district.”
The model in To Mau village, Yen Bai province, is worth 1.3 million USD.

Each year, our company raises and sells about 1,000 cows and buffalos. Our products are in great demand because of our good breeding practice. The cattle are vaccinated and fed a scientific diet and food hygiene is absolutely ensured. Our beef and buffalo meat are sold domestically and exported.
The cattle manure is treated and turned into a type of humus suitable for raising worms and composting the orange trees which the company grows in Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province, and Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province.
Tung said: “Since the model was initiated, we have decided to develop a brand for our farm produce and abide by organic standards.”
Luong Van Hung, a Green Plain employee, says that in additional to earning a stable wage of 220 USD a month, he has learned a lot about farming.
“The model is matched to local conditions. The cattle eat mostly corn. All the manure is used to fertilize trees,” said Hung.
Green Plain’s agriculture and breeding model has become the primary model in Yen Bai province. Its products, particularly Luc Yen-Son Tung safe oranges, have gained a firm foothold in the market.
