The workshop was held by the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) as part of the third APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM 3) and related talks.
Participants shared their experiences and discussed measures to apply standards and assessment mechanisms to develop sustainable smart cities in APEC member regions.
Pham Le Cuong, the Director of the Vietnam Certification Center of the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality, the host of the workshop, said: “A smart city is not only a digital city, but also one that is developing sustainably. For example, a city with greenhouse gas emissions, litter, and traffic jams can’t be considered a smart city. In a smart city, advanced technologies should be applied while green or recycled energy should be used.”
The same day, a workshop on developing a system of producing and consuming agricultural products using climate information was held as part of the Food Security Week, and High-Level Policy Dialogue on Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture in response to Climate Change.
Nguyen Linh Ngoc, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said through the meeting Vietnam hopes to uncover solutions combining climate information and agricultural production chains to help APEC economies achieve their Millennium Development Goals.
As part of APEC SOM 3, the APEC Network on Anti-Corruption Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies organized a seminar on strengthening cooperation among law enforcement agencies in revoking assets.
