Friday’s program included meetings and workshops of the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures, the APEC Network on Anti-Corruption Authorities and Law Enforcement Agencies, and the APEC Counter Terrorism Working Group. There were also talks involving the Transportation Working Group, the Subcommittee on Standards and Conformance, Customs Best Practices to Identify Illegal Timber and Wood Products, and dialogue on the automobile industry.
The third APEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM3), slated to last until the end of the month, will feature 75 meetings, seminars, and dialogues involving four committees and dozens of working groups of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). SOM3 participants and related talks are expected to implement long-term programs and cooperative plans in key areas, focusing on the top priorities of the APEC Year 2017 as well as its long-term goals on trade liberalization and investment in the region. APEC’s Committees and working groups will also discuss documents to be submitted to APEC Ministers for approval in preparation for the APEC Summit this November in Da Nang City.
At SOM3, Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son chaired meetings of senior officials, a meeting of the SOM Friends of the Chair on Connectivity, and a workshop on inclusive economic, financial and social development.
