In 2018, Hoai An district created a plan on agriculture restructuring through 2025 and Vision toward 2030 in order to maintain rice cultivation areas to ensure food security and develop concentrated fruit growing areas. The district has converted more than 1,500 ha of vegetable plantation to grow fruit. Fruit growing farmers received preferential credits with low interest rates and growing techniques. 

Nguyen Xuan Phong, Vice Chairman of Hoai An district’s People’s Committee said that the district has more than 3,100 ha for growing fruit, most of them are green-skinned pomelo, coconut, and jackfruit.     

Mr. Phong said: "The district has devised programs to promote the brands of major fruits until 2025. We have instructed local farmers to apply safe production techniques, called for further investment in agriculture, promoted the coding of products, and help growers to expand export market."

Last month, the district’s People’s Committee organized a Farm Produce Festival where it signed 7 contracts and agreements on farm produce sales with businesses inside and outside the province including those in HCM City.

Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee, said: "Hoai An needs to expand the growing areas with organic standards, VietGAP standards and strengthen the application of technology in production toward creating production chains to increase productivity, quality and value of local farm produce as well as to expand the market. The district needs to focus on establishing intensive material regions to attract investors, especially to the locality’s preservation and in-depth processing which will help expand the market and improve farmers’ income."

By developing concentrated fruit growing areas, establishing cooperatives, and creating production chains and sale networks, Hoai An district hopes to expand the market for local agricultural products.
