(VOVworld)- The 9th Blood Drive will be held at the National Convention Center on February 28. The event hopes to attract 25,000 donors and collect 8,000 blood units.
The 2016 Blood Drive will celebrate blood donations with art performances, a carnival, and camping.
The day before the drive begins, 400 doctors from 16 hospitals in Hanoi will stage a road show to celebrate Vietnam Physicians’ Day, February 27. The road show will go around the city disseminating information about blood donation and end at National Convention Center.
On Sunday, February 21, 1,000 volunteers of the Hanoi Blood Donation Youth Association participated in the launch of the 2016 Blood Drive determined to collect more than 10,000 blood units. The volunteers went around Hanoi mobilizing the public to donate blood.
Doctor Professor Nguyen Anh Tri, Head of the Drive’s Organizing Board said this is the 9th year the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion has organized the Drive. With the motto “A blood unit gives a life”, the 2016 drive will be a festival of compassion, kindheartedness, and sharing: “Blood is very important and we need more every day. All hospitals need blood. So I call on all healthy people to donate blood. Blood donation saves lives. Donating blood shows that people care about one another”.
In the past 8 years, the blood drive has collected nearly 42,000 blood units. In 2012 alone, nearly 8,000 blood units were collected.
