(VOVWORLD) - A calligraphy exhibition is being held at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi to promote calligraphic works in Chinese, Nom-Chinese transcribed Vietnamese, and Vietnamese. It’s one of 50 events of the Hanoi Design and Creativity Festival 2022.

The exhibition displays 100 calligraphic works by 100 calligraphists from across Vietnam and abroad, which honor Vietnam’s tradition of study and respect for teachers and morals. Several historical documents are written in a calligraphic style, including King Ly Thai To's Edict on the Transfer of the Capital, and immortal literary works by poet Nguyen Du, poet Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, scholar Chu Van An, and scholar Ngo Thi Nham.
Le Trung Kien of the Organizing Committee said: “The values of classic books are expressed by calligraphy works in Chinese, Nom, and Vietnamese. The works, written using iron pens and brushes, bring the values of their ancestors closer to contemporary people and make them easier to understand.”
The calligraphic works feature Vietnamese literary heritages associated with the Temple of Literature, the first university of Vietnam, and several ancient documents written on stone steles, bronze bells, and woodblocks. They make people feel the perennial nature of Vietnamese culture.
The calligraphy highlights the fact that Vietnam is a unified country whose political and cultural institutions are the same in all regions. The exhibition will be open until Sunday.
