Care for medical workers during COVID-19 pandemic
(VOVWORLD) - COVID-19 has put great pressure on the medical system, especially the medical staff who are in the frontline against the pandemic. Despite the pressure and infection risk, “white-blouse” soldiers have done all they can to save lives. Several policies have been implemented to show gratitude to and care for medical workers.

The Ministry of Health has asked the government to create policies and mechanisms to support medical workers at the grassroots level, help them upgrade their skills and encourage them to work in remote, disadvantaged areas.
Deputy Minister Do Xuan Tuyen said: "We need to revise our support allowances for medical workers, especially those in the frontline against the pandemic. Though the allowances are modest, they encourage medical workers to work harder. We also need long term solutions to improve the quality and efficiency of the preventive medicine system, especially at the grassroots level. We particularly need to improve the quality of medical equipment and personnel."
Bui Si Loi, former Deputy Head of the NA’s Committee for Social Affairs, said improving the capacity of the medical system means reforming medical finance mechanisms and revising allowances for medical workers.
"The Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, the Law on Medical Insurance and laws concerning wages and salary reforms need to be revised to include better allowances. In the meantime, we need to adjust allowances in exceptional cases,' said Mr. Loi.
The Ministry of Health is working closely with other ministries and agencies to review mechanisms and policies that support medical workers, especially those have made sacrifices during the pandemic.
