The cargo terminal at Cat Bi International Airport has a total investment of 29 million USD and a designed capacity of 100,000 tons of goods per year which could expand to 250,000 tons per year with a better technical infrastructure. The terminal is expected to be operational by January, 2026.
Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, said Cat Bi International Airport plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Hai Phong, the northern coast, and the Red River Delta.
“The construction of a new cargo terminal in Hai Phong is an urgent need, in line with the city's goal of developing a logistics hub to connect all modes of transportation as production and supply chains shift from other countries to Vietnam and Hai Phong,” Tho said.
Tran Anh Vu, Deputy General Director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), said Hai Phong has been growing rapidly and drawing a lot of investors. The demand for transporting high-tech goods by air is increasing, so modernizing the infrastructure of Cat Bi International Airport is a key task in ACV’s investment and development plan for the 2021-2025 period.
“ACV considers Cat Bi International Airport a strategic airport in the northern region and in ACV’s network. This is a pivotal project for the development of the logistics sector in the region. I expect the project to boost Hai Phong and the northern coast region.”
ACV and Hai Phong City also intend to invest in a new passenger terminal and expand the aircraft parking at Cat Bi International Airport.
