Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Ngoc Son in an interview with VOV

Since Vietnam and Chile established diplomatic ties in 1971, the two countries have strengthened friendship and solidarity and have upgraded their relations to a comprehensive partnership.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Ngoc Son said that the two have signed agreements including an FTA to create a firm legal basis for bilateral cooperation. Since 2005, two-way trade has increased from 200 million USD in 2005 to 1.3 billion USD. The two have established mechanisms for political and economic dialogues and held regular meetings to review cooperation and devise future cooperation plans. Ambassador Nguyen Ngoc Son said: “Vietnam and Chile are open economies. The CPTPP will create a momentum for the two countries to boost economic, trade, and investment cooperation.”

Ambassador Son said that Chile always supports Vietnam at multilateral forums like the UN and APEC.

Vietnam has supported Chile’s bids in organizations like the UN Human Rights Council and the UN Security Council. Mr. Son said his embassy and the Vietnam Trade Office will work hard to promote Vietnam’s investment opportunities in Chile.
