(VOVWORLD) - In the development strategy for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, the Vietnamese Party and State of Vietnam show high expectation for promoting the fundamental role of science, technology and innovation, considering this a "strategic breakthrough" and "the main driving force" to create breakthroughs in productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy. Scientists and businesses have made efforts to develop science, technology and innovation to achieve sustainable development goals. These efforts continue the emulation spirit that President Ho Chi Minh called for 75 years ago.”
Emulation to master science and technology, create new growth momentum is strengthened |
Vietnamese scientists and businesses have participated in the emulation movement of science and technology development and innovation to improve the quality of life and accelerate national renewal.
Emulation to master science and technology
Starting from a company manufacturing and repairing radio equipment, the Viettel Military Industry-Telecommunications Group has become a large economic-industrial-technological group of Vietnam and the region. It is a model of promoting research and applying science and technology and innovation.
At Viettel Telecom's Data Analysis Center, many important projects have been implemented, solving many business problems in Vietnam and other countries including Laos, Cambodia, Peru, and Myanmar.
Director of the Center Nguyen Tran Ngoc Linh and his staff are working to build an international big data analysis center. He said: “This is the directive of the Group, to the Corporation and the Board of Directors of the Center. Viettel Group has promoted the startup movement. At the Center, we always uphold the spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity. We’re never satisfied with the products, knowledge, and technologies we have, and always strive to obtain the latest information."
Focusing on developing the latest technology, Dr. Nguyen Phi Le and his associates at the International Center for AI Research, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, are researching the application of AI to data collection and air quality forecasting. The emulation movement is also promoted at the Ho Hoan Cau company, a science and technology enterprise in Nghe An province.
Ho Xuan Vinh, Director of the company, said: “Our company has improved its production process in order to cut production costs and make our prices more competitive. We have also promoted the development of new products to create jobs.”

Creating a new growth engine for Vietnam
The Global Innovation Index released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2022 ranked Vietnam 48th of 132 countries. According to the Asian Productivity Organization, in the past 10 years Asia's economy has grown steadily with the total factor productivity (TFP) growing 1%/year over the past 10 years. Vietnam is among the group with the highest TFP growth, averaging of 1.4%/year. This achievement has been largely due to emulation movements.
Vietnam will need new drivers of economic growth to achieve its goal of becoming a high-income economy by 2045, in which science, technology, and innovation drive rising incomes and growth quality.
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said the Ministry has implemented several programs and revised policies to facilitate scientists’ creativity: "We have made a series of adjustments to policies on science, technology and innovation in recent years. We intend to implement more policies and programs to help businesses and connect them with research institutes and universities. We will help enterprises carry out innovative activities and quality improvement and technology innovation programs."
Vietnam intends to become a developing country with modern industry and high-middle income by 2030 and by 2045 it wants to become a high-income, developed country. These goals require scientists to reform to develop faster, more substantively and more sustainably.
With innovations in research and application of science and technology to production, it is clear that scientists and the business community are following the patriotic emulation spirit that President Ho Chi called for 75 years ago. Patriotic emulation activities in research and application of science and technology in production have created a new engine for socio-economic development, contributing to making Vietnam richer and stronger.
