(VOVWORLD) - For the first time, Vietnam has hosted the Generative AI Summit featuring globally renowned experts and entrepreneurs in AI. This event marks a significant step in nurturing young Vietnamese talent, fostering not only AI expertise but also critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and a relentless drive for creativity and innovation to benefit humanity.

The GenAI Summit 2024 held in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday focused on three core topics – “Foundational Models of GenAI”, “Practical Applications of GenAI”, and “Opportunities for Vietnam”.
In the “Foundational Models of GenAI” segment, professors, researchers, and scientists delved into advanced technologies driving the development of Large Language Models (LLMs).
The “Practical Applications of GenAI” segment featured senior business leaders discussing the transformative potential and applications of GenAI in healthcare, education, and social life.
The conference concluded with the topic “Opportunities for Vietnam” where domestic and foreign investors and leaders of AI corporations discussed the impact of GenAI on Vietnam’s technological and economic growth, as well as Vietnam's opportunities and challenges in becoming a leader in AI. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc said the Vietnamese Government is aware of AI's importance and has adopted policies to promote AI research, development, and application. She said the Ministry is proposing a project called "Human Resource Development for the Semiconductor Industry until 2030, with a vision to 2050", aiming to have at least 5,000 AI engineers by 2030.
"We are fostering an environment conducive to AI research, development, and application, to enhance business and economic competitiveness. We have integrated science and technology development into the national economic development strategy," said Ngoc.

Drawing more than 1,000 leading AI experts, business leaders, intellectuals, and research pioneers, the summit provided a valuable opportunity for Vietnam, especially its tech-savvy youth, to gain inspiration, foster creativity, and nurture AI talent. The event featured Jeff Dean, Chief Scientist at Google and co-founder of Google Brain, Google Translate, Gemini, and other groundbreaking products that have solidified Google's dominance in the global tech industry. This was the first time he has visited Vietnam.
The AI Summit has become one of the most important and anticipated science and technology events in Southeast Asia. Dr. Luong Minh Thang of the Organizing Committee, said the summit was the most exciting GenAI event to date, not only in Vietnam but in the region.
