Dao Thi Sua of District 8 said that although her family lives in difficult circumstances, she was willing to donate to the COVID-19 Vaccine Fund.
“I listened to the news about President Nguyen Xuan Phuc initiating a COVID-19 Vaccine Fund. I was moved to see doctors and soldiers working in difficult conditions. I don’t have much money, but I contributed what I can. One person cannot afford a vaccine dose, but when many people donate, we can. I hope the COVID-19 vaccination will be administered massively to keep people safe to continue to work,” Sua said.
Many people have withdrawn their savings to donate to the Fund. Veteran Do Van Tho of District 1 and Nguyen Thi Thao of District 5, each donated 4,400 USD from their savings.
Students and pupils have also made contributions – for example 5-year-old Vo Diem Sang and her 4-year-old brother Vo Trieu Sang of Cu Chi town, and kindergartener Phan Tuan Minh of District 11. A group of small traders in Thu Duc city have collected money to send to the Fund.
After one month Ho Chi Minh City’s COVID-19 Fund has received pledges to donate 100 million USD.
To Thi Bich Chau, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, said: “The size of the donation depends on each individual. The most important thing is their generosity. People transfer money or give us cash. Very touching! Retired people, small traders, and street vendors have donated. Small children have donated their savings. We must engage our sense of responsibility and use our resources effectively.”
The Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City has received donations from a few dollars to thousands of dollars from people who want to help Vietnam defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.
