(VOVWORLD) - The 6th session of the 15th National Assembly closed on Wednesday morning in Hanoi after 20 working days. The results achieved at the session in legislation, and decision-making will formthe basisofnational socio-economic development and activities in the second half of the tenure.

At this session, the National Assembly considered and approved many important bills and Resolutions and mapped out solutions for economic recovery and development.
Much legislative work completed
In the 6th session the National Assembly passed 7 bills, including the revised Law on Water Resources, the revised Law on Housing, the revised Law on Real Estate Business, and the revised Law on Telecommunications.
The National Assembly gave opinions on 8 other bills. The revised Land Law and the revised Law on Credit Institutions will be further discussed for approval at the upcoming session.
Nguyen Manh Hung, a National Assembly deputy for Can Tho city, said: "In previous sessions the National Assembly passed 12 to 14 bills. At this session the number increased to 17 which reflected a very large legislative workload. The National Assembly coordinated closely with the Government, even on weekends, to ensure the quality of the bills. Functional agencies of the National Assembly and the Government established technical groups to clarify issues related to complex laws like the Land Law, which received 12 million opinions. The National Assembly considered all the opinions and found the most feasible solutions.”
The National Assembly passed a number of Resolutions, including the Resolution on piloting specific mechanisms and policies on investment in road construction, the Resolution on collecting additional corporate income tax in accordance with global regulations on preventing tax base erosion, and the Resolution on State Budget estimates for 2024, which specifies overall reform of salary policy from July 1st, 2024.
Quality of oversight improved
For the first time, in the 15th National Assembly tenure the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, and heads of sectors answered National Assembly deputies’ questions in 21 fields. They clarified the progress made in carrying out their commitments and responsibilities and discussed possible solutions.

Nguyen Truong Giang, Deputy Secretary General of the National Assembly and Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee, said: “All 21 fields discussed at the Q&A session were listed in the National Assembly’s Resolution, which mentioned the responsibilities of each minister and each sector, including time frames and proposed solutions. Specific tasks were clarified. The National Assembly Resolution clearly stated what has been done, and what has not been done to meet voters’ expectations and hopes.”
The National Assembly conducted votes of confidence for 44 individuals holding positions elected or approved by the National Assembly. The results of the votes of confidence were announced publicly. The National Assembly, for the first time, simultaneously oversaw three national target programs for the 2021-2025 period including the programs to build new rural areas, to sustainably reduce poverty, and to advance socio-economic development in ethnic minority communities and mountainous areas.
Growth target of 6-6.5% set for 2024
National Assembly deputies passed a Resolution on a socio-economic development plan for 2024 which sets a GDP growth target of 6-6.5%, which will require great effort and determination from the entire political system, the business community, and the people.
Chairman of the National Assembly's Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh said: “The GDP growth target is based on analyses and forecasts of the domestic and international situation, taking into account the favorable and unfavorable factors of 2024 and the goals and tasks of the 2021-2025 economic and social development plan.”
The 6th session of the 15th National Assembly fulfilled its basic goals. The decisions adopted at this meeting will provide a foundation for removing barriers, ensuring social security, and achieving Vietnam’s future development goals.
