Investing in intellectuals is investing in sustainable development

(VOVWORLD) -Resolution 27 of the 10th Party Central Committee on "Building a contingent of intellectuals in the period of accelerating national industrialization and modernization" has achieved strong results in its 15 years of implementation. During 40 years of doing scientific research, Associate Professor Dr. Le Tat Khuong, Director of the Institute of Regional Research and Development of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has visited several regions and met many people. Wherever he went, he tried to help the local people escape poverty.

He is currently working on a number of projects, including “Developing high quality orange and pomelo varieties in Bac Son district, Lang Son province”, "Pilot models for growing avocado varieties in Bac Giang province", and "Developing some closed, organic production models for strong agricultural products in the north central region”.

Associate Professor, Dr. Khuong was honored by the State as one of 112 outstanding intellectuals in 2019. He said, “We have studied the agriculture of each region, identified their main agricultural products, and helped them create and research programs to develop sustainable agricultural products. We also recommended new plants to add to the crop structure for each region.”

The thousands of intellectuals doing scientific research and application are an important force for national sustainable development. In 15 years of implementing the 10th Party Central Committee’s resolution, Vietnamese intellectuals have led the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Professor Nguyen Lan Dung, a member of the National Council for Education and Human Resource Development, said, “Talent is the precious asset of the nation. In the 4th Industrial Revolution, we are in dire need of intellectuals to work for the nation. We need appropriate policies to help them contribute to the nation and realize the Party and State's policies and guidelines."

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said that in order for intellectuals and scientists to contribute more to national development, it is necessary to create mechanisms and policies to treat and honor intellectuals.

“Building a strong contingent of intellectuals directly raises the intellectual level and power of the nation and improves the Party's leadership and the operational quality of the political system. Investing in intellectuals is investing in national sustainable development,” said Trong.

It’s the responsibility of the Party, the State, the political system, and the society to build a contingent of intellectuals to serve socio-economic development. It’s also important to push institutional reform, mobilize social resources, ensure democracy in scientific research, and offer incentives for talents, intellectuals, and scientists.

Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, said, “Countries that want to develop must make science and technology the top national priority. The overarching policy must be realized in new policies and solutions. That is to respect intellectuals, use them, honor them, and create conditions for them to work in. Their study projects should be used."
