Truong Giang -
(VOVword)- Plans have been made to build centers to provide logistics services for fishermen. In the northern fishing ground, a project to build the Tonkin Gulf Fishing Logistics Service Center on Co To island, Quang Ninh province, is nearly completed.
Le Van Thoai of Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, often goes fishing in March and April. On his 500 CV fishing vessel, Thoai goes to sea for 10 to 15 days. When he runs out of necessities, he stops at the Fishing Logistics Service Center on Co To island to get 300 ice blocks, foods and other necessities. Thoai says: “I often go to sea for 15 days and then sell fish in Co To. It’s safe and convenient to anchor my ship here, especially during a storm”.
The project to build the Tonkin Gulf Fishing Logistics Service Center was launched in 2009 with a total investment of 400 billion VND, most of the funding coming from the East Sea-Sea and Island Program. After the 1st phase ended, the center was able to accommodate 600cv vessels and its 26 ha anchorage has become a shelter for vessels during storms. The center has helped fishermen cut costs and provided the processing of seafood on the island. Pham Thi Mang, who owns the biggest seafood processing company on Co To island, has a processing workshop inside the fishing logistics service center. She said: “We all wanted a fishing logistics service center on the island. Once the project is completed, we plan to build a modern seafood processing plant using clean technology”.
Hoang Ba Nam, the Party Secretary and Chairman of Co To district, says the project received strong support from Quang Ninh provincial authorities: “The first phase of the project has been completed. Once the project is fully completed, it will contribute significantly to local economic growth, create a breakthrough in the fishing logistics service industry and strengthen the connection between the economy
