(VOVWORLD) - The election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure will take place on Sunday. More than 69 million voters are eligible to vote in the election, which takes place every 5 years. Localities have rehearsed plans to ensure safety for the election.
Members of the National Election Council told a national virtual meeting Tuesday that localities have rehearsed preparations and electoral procedures.
At polling station number 9 in Trung Hòa ward, Cau Giay district, Hanoi, lists of voters and candidates for the National Assembly and all-level People’s Councils have been made public. Lists of candidates are posted on partitioned tables so voters can practice social distancing while reading the information.
Nguyen Quoc Khanh, Head of the election team of polling station number 9, said approximately 2,500 voters will cast ballots here.
“We have instructors at the door. Everyone must wear a mask, disinfect their hands, and keep a safe distance. Depending on the pandemic situation, we will adjust the polling hours to make sure everyone has time to vote.”
Colonel Nguyen Sy Quang, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Public Security, said they have worked with authorized agencies to ensure safety on Election Day.
“HCMC has more than 3,000 polling stations. The city’s public security department has mapped out scenarios to guarantee the safety of voters.”
The leaders of Quang Nam province have asked the People’s Councils of districts and communes to set up polling stations for voters who are confined to quarantine sites or under treatment for COVID-19.
Tien Thang commune in Hai Phong city expects 6,000 voters to cast ballots. 50 people are currently in quarantine and 480 people are in home isolation.
Chairman of Toan Thang commune’s People’s Council Phạm Van Got said: “The election team will bring polling boxes to families so they can vote. We have prepared protective clothing for the team. F1 individuals will exercise their voting rights at quarantine sites.”
The National Election Council said preparations are basically complete for Election Day this Sunday.
