Month of Workers observed in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) -May 2017 is observed as the Month of Workers in Vietnam. Several programs have been launched to take better care of workers.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) has signed agreements with service providers to offer discounts to workers during the month. Special treatment has been given to disadvantaged workers and their families and outstanding workers have been honored “Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has held a dialogue with 2,000 workers in the central key economic region to help solve their problems. Improving workers’ working and living conditions should be a continual and consistent mission rather than a short-term solution during the Month of Workers”, said Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.

The VGCL has set minimum nutrition and food safety standards for meals provided by employers to shift employees.

“Employers and the trade union will be held accountable for any food poisoning at their place of business. We are developing a project to build institutions that cover basic services for workers in industrial parks, including accommodations, kindergartens, health centers, supermarkets, and legal counseling centers”, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hong said

Funding for this project will come from the government, local authorities, private contributions, and trade unions. The project will be implemented in Tien Giang and Ha Nam province and Da Nang city in 2017.
