Highlights of 47 years of bilateral diplomatic ties
Since Vietnam and Mozambique established bilateral diplomatic ties 47 years ago the two countries have consistently supported each other in national development and have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels.
During online talks on June 6, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Frelimo Party President and President of Mozambique Filipe Jacinto Nyusi agreed to tap each other’s potential and strength to boost cooperation in politics, diplomacy, economics, security, defense, education, tourism, and culture, enhance people-to-people exchanges and closely cooperate at regional and global forums. The President of Mozambique said Vietnam is a priority in Mozambique’s eastward external policy.
Two-way trade reached nearly 150 million USD last year. Vietnam exported to Mozambique rice, fertilizer, garments and textiles, steel products, and imported animal feed, cashew nuts, timber, and ore.
Mozambique ranks 11th of 72 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Vietnam’s Viettel and Hapro groups invest in telecommunications and trade in Mozambique. The two countries are strengthening cooperation in fisheries, agriculture, and training.

Bilateral parliamentary cooperation strengthened
Over the past few years, Vietnam and Mozambique have bolstered parliamentary cooperation and worked closely at multilateral parliamentary forums. At the 5th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Austria last September, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told Assembly President Bias that Vietnam treasures friendship with Mozambique, one of Vietnam’s primary partners in Africa.
During the ongoing visit, President Bias and Mr. Hue will discuss ways to make bilateral cooperation more effective and will sign an MoU. Ms. Bias will also meet with Vietnamese business leaders and visit the Mekong Delta Rice Institute and the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture Sciences.
