(VOVWORLD) - Since early last year, Vietnam has worked hard to minimize losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected all aspects of life. The whole political system and the public have collaborated to ensure social security and social welfare and restore production and business.

The Prime Minister fine-tuned the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, set up sub-committees, including the Sub-Committee for Social Security, to promptly meet people’s urgent needs during the implementation of COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
By August, trade unions at various levels had spent more than 170 million USD to support frontline pandemic fighters, trade union members, and workers, and mobilized social resources to help workers overcome difficulties. Zero-dong stores, zero-dong mobile shops, and rice ATMs were set up to deliver food and other essentials to workers during the pandemic. More than 8,000 businesses set up more than 42,000 COVID-19 safety teams to closely monitor workers. Businesses have worked closely with agencies to monitor workers’ production, employment, and income in order to promptly address emerging problems.
The socio-economic situation has been stable as a result, and public trust in Party leadership and government management has increased.
At the ongoing National Assembly session, deputies emphasized the need to pay more attention to the fight against the pandemic and ensuring social security for the people. NA Deputy Quang Van Huong of Son La province said ensuring employment for workers during the pandemic is of great importance, particularly for migrant workers returning home.
'In order to stabilize the labor market, we need to review our policies and enable binding regulations between factories and industrials and local workers and provide workers with up-to-date information about the labor market. It’s important to strengthen enforcement of laws on labor contracts, unemployment insurance, and links between supply and demand, to help reduce poverty,' said Mr. Huong.
Since the middle of 2020, Vietnam has adopted several aid packages that use the State budget to help workers.
In addition to a social security aid package of 2.7 billion USD, Hanoi and HCM City have implemented additional packages to help local workers during the social distancing period.
