(VOVWORLD) - The Hai Phong Economic Zone has 350 enterprises, more than 90% of which have established trade unions. Trade unions, especially in FDI enterprises, have helped to ensure the rights of employees and served as a reliable support for workers and businesses.

The Trade Union of the Wayne Vietnam Company in the Japan-Hai Phong Economic Zone was established in 2013. Every month union representatives meet with the company leaders to discuss production, orders, plans, and ways to boost productivity.
Pham Thi Hong, Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Wayne Vietnam, said that whenorders pile up and workers need to work overtime, the union and the leaders negotiate what rewards and bonus the workers will get.
“In January we signed a 2nd collective labor agreement with more incentives than the 1st version. These include a maximum bonus of one month's salary and a child allowance of 4 USD per child per month in primary school. Each employee is given one yogurt box per week and an extra meal worth 2 USD every month. Female employees enjoy child rearing benefits and the cash equivalent of 25 liters of petrol per month,” said Hong.
Higher pay and guaranteed benefits have motivated the workers to participate in union activities. New Year’s, Labor Day, and Workers’ Culture and Sports Week are annual holidays for workers in Hai Phong city.
Pham Van Toan, an employee of the Wayne Vietnam Company, said, “At the New Year’s holiday and other holidays, the Trade Union gives gifts and awards to workers. They organize a New Year’s party and exchanges to boost the work spirit.”
Tran Thi Hoa, another employee of Wayne Vietnam Company, said, “The Trade Union takes good care of workers and tightens the bond between workers and the company. The worker’s interests are guaranteed and the company can grow.”
The Trade Union of Hai Phong’s Economic Zone supported the establishment of Trade Unions at 67 companies.
“In the past foreign businesses hesitated to have a Trade Union. With the view that Trade Union activities must be both employee-oriented and business-oriented, we have approached businesses which have not yet established a Trade Union,” said Nguyen Hong Quang, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Hai Phong’s Economic Zone.
”They have gradually changed their mindset and now realize that trade unions play an indispensable role in ensuring workers’ rights and helping businesses prosper.”
The Trade Union of Hai Phong Economic Zone aims to establish a Trade Union at every business with 20 workers or more.
