This is Mr. Pham Minh Chinh’s first visit to Cambodia as Vietnam’s Prime Minister and the first visit to Cambodia by a key Vietnamese leader during Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2022.

Over the years, the two countries have maintained exchanges and cooperative mechanisms in all channels. Cooperation between ministries, sectors, and localities has become closer and more effective. The two have enhanced cooperation in national defense and security and have honored a commitment to never allow any hostile force to use their own territory to threaten the other’s security.

On the basis of signed treaties and agreements they have built a border of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

Bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, and investment has grown steadily, with two-way trade totaling 9.5 billion USD this year, up 79% from 2021.

Vietnam currently has 188 investment projects in Cambodia, the most among ASEAN investors and in the top 5 of all FDI investors in Cambodia.

The two countries’ leaders have promised to create hospitable conditions for each other’s resident citizens in line with their spirit of neighborly friendship.

Vietnam and Cambodia have worked closely together at international forums, especially in 2022 with Cambodia serving as ASEAN’s Chair, in order to promote peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the ASEAN Community, the region, and the world.

Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth said: "We plan to continue to enhance friendship and cooperation between the two countries. With the COVID-19 pandemic contained, this will be a good opportunity for the two countries to support each other in external activities. Vietnam and Cambodia are  both members of ASEAN. Cambodia’s successful ASEAN Chairmanship is thanks in part to Vietnam’s support. "

Prime Minister Hun Sen and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed this year to raise bilateral trade to 10 billion USD and make the Vietnam-Cambodia border a border of peace, friendship, and cooperation.

In the face of unprecedented complications, the two countries recognize the importance of friendship, cooperation and mutual support to ensure their mutual prosperity.

During the visit, Prime Minister Chinh will meet with Prime Minister Hun Sen, deliver a keynote speech at the Vietnam-Cambodia Trade Investment Promotion Forum, and meet King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Say Chhum, National Assembly Speaker Heng Samrin, and a number of other senior Cambodian leaders.
