Vietnam designates fighting COVID-19 as primary task

(VOVWORLD) - The COVID-19 pandemic is getting more complicated around the world, particularly in Vietnam’s neighboring countries with rising infection cases and deaths. In Vietnam, after more than 30 days without locally-transmitted infections, more than 400 cases have been reported since April 27. Vietnam’s primary task now is to curb the spread of the virus and overcome the disease’s consequences to ensure security, safety, and people’s health and successfully achieve the twin task of containing the disease and boosting economic growth.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has held an urgent meeting on COVID-19 response with 63 cities and provinces asking the Party Committees and local administrations to bring into play their leadership role and mobilize the whole political system and the public to fight COVID-19 with the spirit of fighting the disease like fighting an enemy. Vietnam has shifted from defense to attack. IT has been used to monitor the disease Ministries, agencies, and localities have stayed on their guard, promptly detecting and quarantined new cases, ensuring effective treatment, and quickly stabilizing the situation.
The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control has delegated responsibility to agencies and localities. Individuals or organizations that violate disease prevention rules must be held accountable, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh:
'We need to deal strictly with violations of disease prevention regulations. Those who fail to fulfill their tasks and responsibility must be held accountable. We should not treat anybody with indulgence.' said the Prime Minister.
Authorities nationwide have strengthened the management of quarantine and immigrants, closely monitored immigrants’ health in post-quarantine, and worked hard to prevent illegal entries. Party Committees, local administrations, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, social organizations, and the public have been mobilized to the fight the disease.
Central cities and provinces are required to increase their testing and quarantine capacity to be prepared for emergencies as requested by the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said, 'Provinces that decide to impose social distancing need to make it effective on the smallest scale possible to avoid any negative impact on goods production and distribution, or business activities.'
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Health to monitor the pandemic, prepare scenarios for any situation, accelerate the import of vaccines and diversify vaccine supplies to ensure widespread vaccination.
