Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said the VFF’s national congress is an important political event. The Communist Party of Vietnam has always appreciated the Front’s role and steady development, representing national unity and being a decisive factor for the success of Vietnam’s revolution. 

The Party leader said the Vietnam Fatherland Front represents the people’s legitimate rights and interests, rallies and promotes national unity, exercises democracy, enhances social consensus, conducts social supervision and criticism, gets involved in Party and State building, and plays a part in national construction and defense.

VFF’s most important contribution is expanding and reinforcing national unity

Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said the Front has made important contributions to the national revolutionary cause. The foremost contribution is expanding and strengthening national unity around the Communist Party of Vietnam, which generates enormous power for national development.

“The Front has built national unity through communications and widespread patriotic emulation movements, aiming to achieve political goals and improve people’s lives. Remarkable campaigns have targeted building a cultural lifestyle in residential areas and implementing principles of democracy, Party guidelines, and State laws. The Front has been listening to and collecting public opinions and reflecting them to the Party and State.”

The VFF has redirected its activities toward the local level. The Front’s branches have been actively involved in patriotic movements, making the Front a shared venue for people of all social strata and religions to contribute their intellect to national development.

The foremost task is to strengthen national unity

Nguyen Phu Trong said it’s necessary to rally people and build a solid consensus on thought and action toward securing national sovereignty and political stability. Experience shows that unity makes all things possible. Vietnam is pursuing modernization and industrialization with many advantages and challenges. On this new path Vietnam needs to reinforce national unity and consensus. “The Vietnam Fatherland Front reflects national unity. The Front must continue to promote the vanguard role of the working class and the huge potential of the peasants, the intellectuals, and businesses. The Front must foster relations among workers, peasants, and intellectuals as the foundation of national unity and generate conditions for people to promote their creativity and contribute to the nation. The Front must promote democracy, ensure equality, and eliminate the inferiority complex of the past.”

The Front continues its core role of strengthening social consensus towards national construction and defense

Socio-economic development is the central task. Nguyen Phu Trong said in order to fulfill this task the Front must successfully implement the campaigns of building a cultural lifestyle in residential areas, new rural development, and other patriotic emulation movements. “The Front must mobilize all people and economic sectors to contribute their knowledge, money, and effort for their families’ improved well-being and for national economic development and poverty reduction. The Front should encourage people to practice thrift to conserve resources for building public works and expanding production and to uphold the principles of economic growth on a par with social and cultural advancement.”

As a political alliance of the people, the Front must continue to mobilize people to Party and State building, exercise its function of social supervision and criticism, and consult with the Party and State on policy-making.

Nguyen Phu Trong confirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam is a leading and important member of the Front. He asked the Party committees and administrative agencies to closely work with the Front to improve its organizational mechanism, policies, and the quality of its national unity work in the new period.
