(VOVWORLD) - Localities nationwide have strengthened measures against COVID-19 as the pandemic is spreading quickly.

Since Hanoi has imposed the Prime Minister’s Directive 16 mandating strict social distancing for 15 days starting Saturday morning The city’s Party Secretary Dinh Tien Dung said on Sunday that the risk of spreading COVID-19 is high and asked municipal authorities at all levels to stay on high vigilance. He said tighter discipline will make the fight against COVID-19 more effective.
He asked that the entire city be disinfected and the Department of Industry and Trade stockpile sufficient essential goods for an extended lockdown. He stressed the need to ensure the flow of goods and maintain production and operation of industrial parks in order to boost economic development while fighting the pandemic.
Mr. Dung says, 'We have been resolute, coordinated, and united in the fight against the pandemic. Key leaders of the city have worked closely and regularly to make prompt decisions. We must take advantage of this fleeting chance to contain the pandemic and protect people’s lives. We must stay vigilant and calm whatever happens.'
In Hai Phong city, where thousands of vehicles go in and out every day, measures against COVID-19 have been intensified. The city has set up 3 rings of control at its gates, ports, warehouses, and transportation facilities.
Vu Duy Tung, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Transport, says: 'We need to make sure our checkpoints are effective. After someone goes through a major checkpoint, we will check them again at port sub-checkpoints, where we look thoroughly at their certificates of SARS-CoV-2 tests. Other checkpoints have been set up at parking lots and individual businesses. Without a certificate of a clean SARS-CoV-2 test, a driver may not enter.'
Residents of Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s biggest COVID-19 hotspot right now – are not allowed to go out after 6 pm, beginning Monday. All activities are suspended, except for emergency medical care and anti-pandemic activities.
HCM City’s Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen stressed the importance of Directive16 and called on people to cooperate with their local administration to fight the pandemic.
