(VOVWORLD) - As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spreads, Vietnam’s two major cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have accelerated their vaccination campaign.

The Hanoi Department of Health said district and commune medical centers have started vaccinating registered people. Hanoi’s goal is to vaccinate 70% of the city’s population by next March.
By last Friday, Hanoi had administered more than 210,000 doses. 9,000 frontline workers have received two doses. The health sector has mobilized all available human resources to vaccinate people as quickly and safely as possible.
Nguyen Dinh Hung, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Health, said the plan is to administer 100,000 to 200,000 doses a day.
“Hanoi has 1,000 to 1,200 vaccination sites at medical centers and ward clinics to vaccinate adults with no record of allergic reactions. Older adults and people with record of allergic reactions or underlying medical conditions will be vaccinated at hospitals which are equipped to handle emergencies,” Hung said.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s most severely affected locality, has launched its 5th vaccination rollout for 15 high priority groups, using millions of doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccine.
Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Committee, said: “Vaccines do not protect us immediately – only after 45 days. If we don’t vaccinate now we’ll be in a much more difficult situation. HCMC has expanded its vaccination rollout to many more people.”
The vaccination drive has been publicized through several channels. People can register for vaccination via the Electronic Medical Book app.
