(VOVWORLD) - A 2-day forum themed “Vision and Development Strategy in the Fourth Industrial Revolution” opened in Hanoi on Thursday. The event, co-hosted by the Vietnamese Government and the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, discussed a plan of action and strategy for Vietnam in the 4th Industrial Revolution.

At this year’s forum, Vietnam aimed to set specific targets for each sector to adapt to the new revolution. On the sideline of the forum’s summit, 5 workshops focused on impact identification and recommendations for Vietnam, smart urban areas, production, agriculture, and finance-banking progresses.
4th Industrial Revolution to realize dream of prosperity
The Vietnamese government has adopted policies of IT development and hi-tech application to seize opportunities presented by the 4th Industrial Revolution to steer Vietnam to prosperity. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called on the State, businesses, and the public to be more aware of the benefits of scientific advances, from e-governance to smart cities. He said: “Preventing and combating adverse impacts of the 4th Industrial Revolution to enable Vietnam to narrow the development gap with advanced counties is an issue that needs to be addressed. I call on experts, scientists, and business people to continue their support for Vietnam’s advance in this global revolution.”

Prime Minister Phuc reiterated the government’s intention to build and develop a digital economy and smart industry, considering it a key task of economic restructuring combined with a growth model shift towards higher productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness. He pointed out major tasks to be accomplished to benefit from the 4th Industrial Revolution: “We should focus on fine-tuning mechanisms, policies, and laws to develop the digital economy and smart industry. A strategy on digital and national database transformation should provide a foundation for digital transformation plans in every sector. IT should be widely applied in administrative reform, e-governance, and online public services. A coordinated infrastructure, in which IT and communications infrastructure play a key role, should be built. The national communications infrastructure, including telecommunications, database, information, and knowledge infrastructure, should be modernized.”
The Prime Minister has issued Directive 16 on strengthening Vietnam’s capacity to leverage the 4th Industrial Revolution. Vietnam has begun to apply cloud computing technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and internet connections in industry, agriculture, and services. Vietnam, with 3,000 start-up businesses, has formed a start-up ecosystem, an important condition for maximizing the 4th Industrial Revolution. 88% of Vietnam’s public services have gone online.
