Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits Germany at a time when the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership has extended into all fields and Vietnam’s relations with G20 economies have progressed. Vietnam has established strategic partnerships with 10 of the G20 economies and comprehensive partnerships with 2 others.
Huge potential for Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership
After 5 years of establishing a strategic partnership, Germany has become Vietnam’s top partner in the EU. Bilateral trade has reached 10 billion USD.
Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung said the countries have huge a potential for cooperation in many fields. “Germany is the world’s 4th largest economy and an advanced industrial country. States of Germany are large and independent from the federal government. For example, one state has 10 million people and a GDP of 480 billion USD, which is double Vietnam’s economic size. Germany also wants to expand cooperation with Vietnam.”
German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s invitation was sent to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc very early. During this visit the two nations will discuss opportunities and deliver their commitments on bilateral cooperation. German businesses are interested in the Vietnamese market and they expect a strong guarantee from the Prime Minister. Ambassador Hung again: “It’s a great opportunity for both Vietnam and Germany. Some German friends told me that they haven’t paid enough attention to the Vietnamese market. They now realize that Vietnam is opening its market and both countries should seize the opportunity to connect their economies.”
Vietnam contributes to shaping an inter-connected world
This year’s G20 summit “Shaping an inter-connected world” will have 5 discussions focused on enhanced self-reliance, resilience, and responsibility. Vietnam has been invited to the G20 summit and related meetings as the host of APEC 2017. Vietnam’s APEC Year 2017 shares similar targets of promoting sustainable and inclusive growth, enhancing trade and investment connections, advocating reform and innovation, resolving socio-economic and labor issues in the digital era, and cooperating to deal with climate change.
9 of the G20 members are APEC economies. It’s an advantage for G20 and APEC to cooperate on global economic issues. Vietnam will work with Germany to rally other economies to the discussion to reach solutions for global development.
Prime Minister Phuc’s visit to Germany and attendance of the G20 summit will promote the image of Vietnam as a dynamic country and a reliable and responsible partner of the world community.
