(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese pangasius is now dominating the Australian market. According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, Vietnam’s tra and basa fish held a 97.5% market share in Australia with an export value of nearly 18 million USD last year. The Vietnamese Embassy and Trade Office in Australia have launched a program of branding and market development for Vietnamese pangasius in Australia.

Starting this year, the program will be implemented at Dai Phat supermarket and Sunshine Corner in Melbourne. Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh said Vietnamese tra and basa fish have a great potential to expand their sales in Australia.
'Vietnamese tra and basa fish are very popular in the US, Europe, and Japan as well as many other countries. Many supermarkets in Melbourne are now selling Vietnamese tra and basa fish. In Canberra and Sydney, Vietnamese products like tra and basa fish are already very popular. In the past few years, Vietnam’s export of tra and basa fish to Australia has grown dramatically. Tra and basa fish are much favored by Australians. Their fish and chip dish is as famous as Vietnamese pho,' said Thanh.
Luong Thanh Van, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Director General of the Viet-Australia Group, who lives in Australia, has been investing in Vietnamese fisheries for several years. He said Vietnamese fish are gaining a stronger foothold in Australia.
Mr. Van said, 'Vietnam has great potential to export fish to Australia because the locals like their quality. Vietnamese aquatic products including lobsters and pangasius are especially favored by local customers because of their superior quality.'
Australia is gradually reopening as the pandemic comes under control. Australian consumers are reducing their consumption of red meat and eating white meat and pangasius instead. The program of branding and market development of Vietnamese tra and basa fish in Australia is expected to make Australian consumers even more interested in Vietnamese fish.
