(VOVworld)- The political report of the 12^th National Party Congress stresses that national unity is an orientation in the Vietnamese revolution’s strategy and a driving force in national construction and defense. Party members and the public hope the Party will continue to promote national unity in the new context.

Since the birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the strength of national unity has been promoted based on the combination of national tradition and orientations of Marxism, Leninism, and Ho Chi Minh thought. Former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Pham The Duyet said the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh united classes of people creating a combined strength to gain great victories against the French colonialists and American imperialists. National unity plays a more important role in the current national industrialization and modernization and international integration. Mr. Pham The Duyet said:“The Party needs to be united to uphold the spirit of national unity. The Party Central Committee needs to set an example for the public and realize its guidelines and resolutions. Only by so doing can we bring into play the strength of national unity to implement national industrialization and modernization and promote international integration”.

Consolidating and promoting national unity has always been part of the Party guidelines in the last 85 years. In its political report at the 12^th National Party Congress, the Communist Party of Vietnam stated that promoting national unity is a strategic orientation of the Vietnamese revolution, a driving force in national construction and defense. Associate Professor Doctor Pham Xuan Hang of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities of Hanoi National University said the Vietnamese revolution led by the Communist Party of Vietnam is inseparable from the public’s support and contribution: “The Party needs to show its important role in promoting national unity because national unity will create national strength”.

The political report points out that promoting national unity needs to be based on harmonizing interests of members in society, protecting legitimate interests and right of the people, and constantly improving people’s lives. All Party guidelines and State policies are aimed at ensuring people’s interests. Lawyer Bui Xuan Duc said: “Promoting national unity needs to be based on harmonizing interests of members in society. National unity means being united within political and revolutionary causes. As the ruling force, the Party needs to unite all forces under the spirit of national unity”.

With trust in renovation, the Party’s leadership, and the nation’s future, Vietnamese people from all walks of life are determined to join the Party and State in national construction and defense.
