(VOVWORLD) - Tree lighting activities are taking place worldwide as Christmas approaches. Major cities around the world have also organized numerous street parades to attract both local people and tourists.
Jerusalem’s Bethlehem City, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, lit up its Christmas tree at Manger Square on December 2nd, marking the start of the festive season. Bethlehem Mayor Anton Salman said that the city wants to send a message of peace, security and stability for the New Year. He called for an end to Israel’s provocations and rights of independence and freedom for the Palestinians.
Earlier, Palestinians in Bethlehem and Christians gathered at Manger square to hail Father Francesco Patton, the Custos of the Holy Land.
Meanwhile, in Washington DC, The White House Christmas Tree, also known as the Blue Room Christmas Tree, is the official indoor tree at the residence of the President, the White House. The 5.5 meter tall tree is decorated with flower wreaths representing symbols of all states in the US to welcome Christmas. The official theme this year is "Time-Honored Traditions," designed to pay homage to over 200 years of White House holiday celebrations.
The annual Santa Claus parade kicked off in Vancouver on December 3rd, drawing thousands of spectators outdoors on a crisp but sunny day. Sunday's parade saw the participation of 2,700 people in costumes of princesses, princes or clowns, and over 300,000 others who came out to watch. The parade was the most awaited event in Canada this year.
Another Christmas season is here, and it is an ideal occasion to connect with people worldwide to join hands for peace and stability.
